Course objective:

B.Sc. (Hons.) Horticulture involves the study of horticultural sciences including the cultivation, production, and management of fruits, vegetables, flowers, spices, plantation crops, and ornamental plants using modern scientific techniques and technologies. The objective of the course is to develop skilled professionals capable of improving horticultural production, enhancing quality, promoting sustainable practices, and introducing innovative technologies that are economically viable and locally adaptable, thereby supporting farmers and boosting the horticulture sector.

Course structure:

Horticultural education is a broad field that includes disciplines such as Fruit Science, Vegetable Science, Floriculture and Landscape Architecture, Plantation Crops, Spices and Medicinal Plants, Post-Harvest Technology, Plant Biotechnology, Soil Science, Agricultural Microbiology, Agricultural Economics, Agricultural Extension, and Environmental Sciences. The B.Sc. (Hons.) Horticulture degree in India is typically a 4-year course under a credit-based system. The program also includes a compulsory 1 semester internship (Rural Horticultural Work Experience). Most courses emphasize practical learning, hands-on training, and skill development through “learning by doing” approaches.
